Construction will commence in April on the 150 MW Upper Kotmale Hydro-Power project at a cost of US$ 350 million. The project is to be funded by the Japanese Government through the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation [JBIC]. Upper Kotmale Hydro-Power project with a capacity of 150 MW would provide an additional 530 GWH to the national grid. The preliminary work has already been done and the completion of the project has become urgent in view of the present power crisis.
