Sri Lanka to host Aviation Conference
[January 23, 2002 - 12.00 GMT]

Sri Lanka will host the 9th annual conference of Co-operative Development on Operational Safety and Continued Air Worthiness Programme (COSCAP) of South Asia later this month.

Director General of Civil Aviation Lal Liyanaarachchi said that the purpose of having this conference is to analyse resource requirements in the member countries and how to share these resources.

Security at international airports in the region will be one of the main topics of the discussion during the conference.

The two-day conference, attended by 20 delegates from member countries and donor agencies will be held at Hotel Kandalama from January 30th to 31st.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to issue visas for a period of one month on arrival for tourists from SAARC countries.

However, if tourists require visas for a longer period of time applications must be made to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

This is the first time that the landing endorsement procedure has been extended to countries of the SAARC region although 72 countries in Europe, the Americas and Asia already enjoy this facility.
