“President Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe maintain a regular dialogue on national issues”. Presidential spokesman Harim Peiris said on Friday. President Chandrika Kumaratunga will cooperate fully with the ongoing peace process initiated by the UNF government he reiterated. “She was elected to office twice in succession, in 1994 and 1999 on a mandate for peace”. Peiris
said the issues that have drawn the attention of President Kumaratunga in
relation to the de-proscription of the LTTE are the human rights of
displaced persons, the right of children to be free from conscription and
the de-mining process.
