Nihal Rodrigo appointed Foreign Secretary

President Chandrika Kumaratunga has appointed Nihal Rodrigo as Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with effect from today 29^th January 2002.

Nihal Rodrigo, a Sri Lankan career diplomat, was Secretary-General of SAARC from 1999 until early January this year. He has served in Sri Lankan Missions in Bonn, New Delhi, Canberra, New York and Geneva.

Prior to taking up his appointment as SAARC Secretary-General, Rodrigo held the portfolio of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.

Nihal Rodrigo succeeds W. Wijesiri.
