‘Padma
Shri’ conferred on Sri Lankan musician Amaradeva

The President of India has recognised Veteran Sri
Lankan music maestro Pandit W. D. Amaradeva with the decoration of Padma
Shri- India’s highest civilian honour. High Commissioner Gopal Krishna
Gandhi in Colombo made the announcement on India’s republic day on
Saturday.
This is one of the many distinguished awards
presented worldwide to Pandit
Amaradeva. Last year Amaradeva won the prestigious Ramon
Magsaysay award.
Earlier, he was honoured by the Bhatkande Institute
of Music with the title “Pandit” in recognition of his outstanding
contribution to music.
