Local Government Ordinance to be amended

At a meeting presided over by President Chandrika Kumaratunga the Cabinet today decided to amend Section 38 of the Local Government Ordinance.

The amendment would empower the Elections Commissioner to postpone a local government election in any part of the country, where he feels that there is an emergency or an unforeseen circumstance.
