New Bio-diversity Park in southern Sri Lanka
[January 31, 2002 - 6.30 GMT]

The first ever bio-diversity park in Sri Lanka will be opened at Oliyagankelle in the southern district of Matara next month.

The Oliyagankelle Bio-diversity Park (OBP) is Sri Lanka’s contribution to the UN declared Year of Eco-Tourism-Year 2002.

The bio-diversity protection authorities have placed Sri Lanka the tenth richest in the world.

The OBP hopes to safeguard couple of threatened endemic species as such Kehibella and Wilpita Dandiya, a rare variety of fish, which could be only found in the streams of Oliyagankelle.
