UN to assist de-mining process

All three UN agencies in Sri Lanka - the UNDP, UNICEF and UNHCR- will consider assisting the government in the de-mining process in Jaffna.

“The UN is considering the proposal by the government for the de-mining process” a spokesman to the UN office in Colombo said.

Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE jointly began their de-mining last Thursday.

The UNDP in Sri Lanka carried a de-mining operation in Jaffna in 1998-1999.
