“Sri Lanka an indispensable gateway to South Asia” - French trade Delegation
[February 12, 2002 - 11.15 GMT]

“Sri Lanka is an indispensable gateway to South Asia for French companies,” Francois Turcas, President of the Confederation of Small and Medium Industries of the Rhone Alpes said Monday.

The eighteen-member French trade delegation from Rhone-Alpes region, which is one of the fast expanding industrial regions in Europe, is currently in Sri Lanka on a six-day visit.

He also said that the idea behind their visit was to work closely with the Sri Lankan people. “This mission will be the first in a series of visits that will be undertaken by French businessmen,” he added.

“This visit will build new trade relationships between the two countries, as there is a demand for Sri Lankan tea, textiles and coconut in the French market while there is a demand for French machinery in Sri Lanka,” Turcas said.
