Twenty candles for Rupavahini

The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) celebrates its 20^th Anniversary today.

The Corporation has organized several events to mark the occasion including a mega musical show featuring a host of popular vocalists in the country.

The SLRC was created by an Act of Parliament on 23^rd January 1982, and commenced transmissions on 15th February 1982.

The country’s premier television station aims to provide the best possible programmes to satisfy the needs of its viewers for informative, educational and family oriented entertainment in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages with bi-lingual/stereo (NICAM) technology.

The station was an outright grant from the Japanese government and is also the main State television station in the country.
