Anuruddha Ratwatte remanded

Former Deputy Defence Minister Gen. Anuruddha Ratwatte was arrested at his residence in Rajagiriya Tuesday, under a special order from the Attorney General.

Gen. Ratwatte who was held in custody overnight in Colombo and flown to Teldeniya in the Central Province was produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate Ms Inoka Ranasinghe who ordered him to be remanded until March 4. 

At the request of Counsel for the ex-minister, he was brought under high security to the Welikada remand jail. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo, under heavy guard.

He was arrested in connection with an investigation into the Udatahlawinna massacre of 10 SLMC supporters during the December General Elections. 

Before taking him into custody the CID also raided his house on two occasions.

The Courts had earlier issued arrest warrants against Mr. Ratwatte’s two sons in connection with this incident.
