PIA scales down Colombo office
[February 28, 2002 - 11.00 GMT]

The PIA Colombo office Manager, Obaid Rahman, confirmed Thursday that the Pakistan International Airlines office in Colombo would not be shut down.

Rahman said that they were compelled to send the Colombo office staff, temporarily on paid leave from March 1, as there was little or no business at present. The decision followed discussions with the Commissioner of Labour in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan International Airline’s, Karachi-Colombo flights have been suspended for the past three months after the closure of Indian air space in the wake of the latest Indo-Pakistan crisis.

However PIA’s Colombo office manager said that operations at the Colombo office would resume as soon as the situation returns to normal.
