[March 5, 2002 - 8.45 GMT]

MRF Limited of India, the 12th largest tyre manufacturer in the world tied up with David Pieris Motor Company Limited to re-launch their range of tyres for three-wheelers and two wheelers in Sri Lanka.

"Some of our products were in the Sri Lankan market but they were not marketed in an organized manner," Director, MRF India, Arun Mammen said at the launch at the Galadari Hotel.

Sri Lanka he said is their closest market outside India and MRF has plans in the pipeline, perhaps a manufacturing plant in Colombo. "We are also hoping to introduce some of our other products as well," Mammen said. MRF now exports to 65 countries including the US since 1973, the birthplace of tyre technology.

David Pieris Motor Company limited Director Parts and Operations, Thusitha Molligoda, said that this is the first time his Company is marketing imported tyres in Sri Lanka.
