Village to Village, Heart to Heart: A meditation for Peace

[March 14, 2002 - 11.00 GMT]

Temples, Kovils and churches around the country will join the peace process by ringing their bells at 1 p.m. on March 15 as Sarvodaya – Sri Lanka’s largest non-governmental organisation (NGO) launches its massive peace campaign; ‘Village to Village, Heart to Heart’.

This campaign, which will be launched in the ancient capital of Anuradhapura, will link over 1,000 villages with the participation of over 500,000 people from all walks of life.

People all over Sri Lanka have been asked to wear white tomorrow in solidarity with the half million people assembled for the Peace Meditation.

“It is expected to shed the negative feeling about peace and create a consciousness among the people with a positive frame of mind towards building a united Sri Lanka,” a press release issued by Sarvodaya said.

“Sarvodaya” which means “Universal Awakening” was founded in 1958 by Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne

The Peace Meditation will be webcast live on the Sarvodaya website.
