CricInfo Ratings for Sri Lankan domestic cricket
[March 15, 2002 - 12.45 GMT]

CricInfo.com has launched the first ever ratings system for domestic cricket in Sri Lanka.

Middle order batsman Bathiya Perera of Moors SC and left-arm spinner Nisitha Rupasinghe of CCC head the respective batting and bowling categories.

The ratings evaluate all players in the Premier League, weighting each individual performance according to the quality of opposition faced, to produce a meaningful barometer of performance.

Having achieved the above, players will accrue points for each run scored and wicket taken.

“This is the first time that CricInfo.com, who manage official websites for eight Test nations and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has developed a domestic system,” a press release issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) said.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Test cricketers Muttaiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene retain in their positions in the latest PricewaterhouseCoopers Test ratings. A double century in Lahore placed Kumar Sangakkara sixth in the batting ratings.
