Flintec loads investment in Sri Lanka
[March 18, 2002 - 12.00 GMT]

Flintec (Pvt.) Ltd. is a successful group of companies in the world weighing industry. In Sri Lanka since 1992, Flintec operated as an independent company focusing on the manufacture of load cells and accessories for electronic scales.

The company has established two new factories at the Koggala EPZ; namely Straintec (Pvt.) Ltd. and Flintec Transducers. Straintec is a new high tech venture for manufacturing strain gauges. Strain gauges are the key components for making load cells, which are used in manufacturing electronic scales. Flintec Transducers is also involved in the production of accessories for the load cells.

The construction work began last year and the government has approved a loan of Rs. 40 million (US$ 43,000) for this project. The total investment for the two factories is around US$ 2.5 million. This project has provided 96 job opportunities for Sri Lankans.

During the last ten years Flintec has developed a strong confidence in the favourable environment in Sri Lanka for investment. According to an official of Flintec, they were happy about the government’s assistance in providing the basic infrastructure facilities and incentives such as the preferential tax rates in the past.

The availability of a technically skilled work force and low cost labour were some of the factors that prompted the company to embark on the new venture.
