[March 19, 2002 - 9.15 GMT]

SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier has been placed ninth out of fifty international airlines in a recent survey conducted by the popular German magazine Reise & Preise.

“In the survey’s Beverage Service category which researched the frequency of services and response to requests for beverages on board, SriLankan received second place,” SriLankan Airlines announced today.

SriLankan also scored high in the Catering, Cabin Crew Service, Inflight Entertainment, Cabin Interior and Seating categories.

“We are constantly striving to improve the level of service that we offer to our customers and it is indeed rewarding to note that this is being recognised in international consumer surveys,” Peter Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the airline said.

This is the third instance in one year in which SriLankan has received high ratings in such surveys. The airline was voted Best Airline of the Year (Central Asia)-2001 by Skytrax Research of UK and again placed eighth in a survey by popular magazine Wanderlust.

Meanwhile, a three-member committee has been appointed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to inquire into the privatisation of the national carrier.
