“Country crying for a strong opposition”- Dr.Amunugama

[March 19, 2002 - 10.15 GMT]

Sarath Amunugama, Chief Opposition spokesman of the Peoples Alliance yesterday said that the country was crying for a strong opposition and the upcoming Local Government polls could be the first step towards creating a strong opposition.

“People are fed up with the false promises that were given by the UNF to them,” complained Amunugama.

Amunugama said that the power cut had been extended to 7 ˝ hours, the cost of living was sky-rocketing, not a single new single job had been created, the rupee further devalued and small traders were complaining that there was no business at all.

Chief Opposition spokesman urged masses to vote in a strong opposition to check the wrong doings of the ruling UNF government.
