[March 22, 2002 - 10.00 GMT]

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has announced its new draft National Telecommunications Policy for the next five-year period and called for public comment.

The draft has been prepared with the consultancy of M/S. David N. Townsend and Associates (DNTA) and funded by the World Bank.

Some of the highlights of the proposed policy include liberalisation of the ICT sectors and the telecommunications market, establishment of a Universal Access policy and support for the establishment and promotion of new information and communication technologies.
