[March 26, 2002 - 12.15 GMT]

“This year will be the best year for foreign investment for Sri Lanka in its entire history,” Arjuna Mahendran, Chairman and Director General of the Board of Investment in Sri Lanka (BOI) said at a media briefing Monday.

He was confident that foreign investment this year would be over US$ 300 million.

“If the present trend continues I am sure that Sri Lanka’s foreign investment per annum will exceed the one billion US dollar mark in three years. We will be then be talking about a 7% economic growth,” Mahendran added.

Prima Ceylon Limited has already invested US$ 30 million to upgrade logistics and another investor has put in US$ 10 million to expand the flour milling capacity in the milling complex at Trincomalee.
