Cisco to teach networking in Sri Lanka

[March 26, 2002 - 11.45 GMT]

US-based networking giant Cisco Systems opened its office in Colombo Monday, announcing it’s plans to set up five ‘Cisco Networking Academies’ (CNAs) across the country within the next few months.

“Sri Lanka is amongst the more mature and promising telecom markets in the region with private industry participation in it,” said a company press release quoting Manoj Chugh, Cisco System’s President India and SAARC.

“The Networking Academies will proliferate networking education and skills in Sri Lanka,” the press release said.

Cisco has partnered with UNDP Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP) in the expansion of Networking in Asia.

Cisco – the No. 1 networking vendor in APAC (Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing) - first marked its presence in Sri Lanka through the appointment of its System Integrators. Among its customers in Sri Lanka are Sri Lanka Telecom, Suntel, Lanka Bell, Sampath Bank, Seylan Bank and Sri Lankan Airlines.
