Award for Kandalama’s outstanding service

[April 4, 2002 - 8.00 GMT]

Hotel Kandalama in north-central Sri Lanka has been awarded the Ultimate Service Award for 2001.

The Ultimate Service Award is the first global award to recognise and reward outstanding service in the hotel industry and received over 2,500 nominations from 128 countries across the world.

Hotel Kandalama is the top ranked hotel in the Indian Sub Continent and Indian Ocean. The award is jointly presented by CNN, Taylor Nelson Sofres Hospitality and Leisure and American Express.

Business and leisure travellers around the world were invited to nominate the hotel that they believe offers exceptional levels of service and is willing to go that extra mile.

Analysis of the nominations has shown that ‘staff attitude and customer service’ were the main reasons for nominating a hotel with two-thirds (65 percent) of travellers stating that that this was their primary reason for voting.

Hotel Kandalama was also the first hotel in Asia to be certified in compliance with the Green Globe 21 standards.
