Government undermining President’s security - Opposition

[April 10, 2002 - 6.00 GMT]

An opposition delegation has briefed High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka, Gopal Gandhi, of serious developments with regard to the systematic undermining of the President’s security.

The delegation which met the High Commissioner Monday has apprised the head of India’s mission in Colombo of mala-fide activities of the Government which systematically undermine the President’s security.

A press release issued by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition said that the delegation further explained the demonstrated lack of seriousness on the part of the Government with regard to consensus building for the peace process through a process of continuous harassment of PA Members of Parliament and activists.

“The dangers of a government conspiracy to create a one party dictatorship were also explained,” the release added.
