Return to Lanka, a website jointly set-up by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Competitiveness Initiative was launched today. ‘Be a big fish in a small pond’, is a call to Sri Lankans domiciled overseas to ‘Return to Lanka’ and reverse the brain drain. “The main idea behind this site is to encourage Sri Lankans overseas to invest in the country and inform them about the potential for investment,” Dilip Samarasinghe, Director Media BOI said. Keith Rankin, writing a column in Scoop - a New Zealand based Internet news service says, “If Sri Lanka is to ever become a rich country, it has to keep a larger share of its education dividend while continuing to use its educational excellence to generate a substantial amount of global income.” “Therefore the challenge is twofold: to create a world economic order in which educated Sri Lankan's are as productive in Sri Lanka as they are out of Sri Lanka; and to create a system of global education property rights which would necessarily return a large proportion of the global education dividend to the educators.” “The website provides the necessary information about Sri Lanka as a business environment and questions and answers relating to the BOI incentives for investment,” the BOI said announcing the launch. Return to Lanka is also a portal for a wide range of Sri Lankan websites.
