Four new judges sworn in

President Chandrika Kumaratunga Wednesday appointed four judges to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

Justice T. B. Weerasuriya was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Weerasuriya, an old boy of Rahula College, Matara ascended the bench as a Magistrate in 1967. He was appointed President of the Court of Appeal in 2001.

Justice N. A. C. N. de S. Jayasinghe, a product of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo was sworn in as the President of the Court of Appeal. He was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 1971 and was appointed a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 1997.

Justice P. Wijeratne, who was appointed as a Judge of the Court of Appeal was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 1968. 

The other appointment was of Justice K. Sripavan as a Judge of the Court of Appeal. He is an old boy of Hindu College, Jaffna and was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 1977. He was appointed Senior State Counsel in 1989. He was appointed Deputy Solicitor General in 1996.
