‘Give Earth a Chance’
[June 5, 2002 - 11.00 GMT]

“Give Earth a Chance” is the global theme of this year’s World Environment Day. June 5 was declared as World Environment Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.

The theme “Give Earth a Chance” calls on each and every one of us to contribute to the healing of the ailing planet.

The main international celebrations of World Environment Day will be held in China.

“Our agenda is to give a human face to environmental issues,” the United Nations Environment Programme says.

Rukman Senanayake, Environment and Natural Resources Minister in a message to mark Environment Day said that it was time to “think globally and act locally” in conserving our environment and natural resources.
