Indian External Affairs Minister arrives in Sri Lanka

[July 11, 2002 - 12.00 GMT]

The new Indian External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha arrived in Sri Lanka Thursday afternoon. He is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Minister Sinha will call on President Chandrika Kumaratunga Friday. He will also meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando to discuss bilateral issues during his brief stay in Colombo.

This is his first official overseas trip after assuming duties as the External Affairs Minister recently.

In November 1999 Mr. Jaswant Singh, the then Indian External Affairs Minister visited Sri Lanka.
