Bribery Commission exonerates former Minister

The Commission to investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption has discharged former Telecommunication Minister Mangala Samaraweera from further proceedings in the complaint made by Lands Minister Rajitha Senaratne the SLFP announced today. 

Minister Senaratne then an Opposition MP complained to the Commission that Sri Lanka Telecom had issued a credit card to the then minister and that the use of this by Samaraweera amounted to bribery and corruption. 

The former Minister appeared before the Commission and made a detailed statement in which he asserted that these were official payments made to him for his official purposes of meeting travel incidentals by an institution under the ministry.
