Ceylon tea for Europe’s flood victims

[August 28, 2002  - 10.30 GMT]

Sri Lanka donated a large volume of tea for the use of flood victims in Eastern Europe, the Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday.

Some 2000 kilograms of Ceylon tea will be airlifted shortly, to be distributed in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic - three of the countries worst affected by the recent floods.

Days of torrential rainfall set off floods in Central and Eastern Europe killing over 100 people beginning August.
