PM off to New York

[September 13, 2002  - 11.20 GMT]

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe left for New York this morning to address the UN General Assembly.

During his stay the Premier will brief American political and business leaders on the peace process and highlight investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

He is due to have a special meeting with global investor George Soros on Monday.

However the Opposition expressed great reservations on inviting Soros to invest in Sri Lanka. “He has been held responsible for the economic crisis in Malaysia and also in other parts of East Asia,” Dr. Sarath Amunugama said at a press conference today.
