[September 17, 2002  - 10.00 GMT]

Hosts Sri Lanka became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2002 when they beat the Netherlands by 206 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium on Monday.

The Dutch, playing in only their sixth one-day international, were all out for 86 in 29.3 overs of the pool 4 match after Sri Lanka had piled up 292 for six.

The Sri Lankan innings was largely based on Vice-Captain Marvan Atapattu’s sixth one-day century, which won him the Man of the Match award.

Off-spinner Muttaiah Muralitharan went on to claim Holland’s last four wickets for 15 runs.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by eight wickets in the opening game on September 12.
