Sri Lanka will be the first neutral venue when they host the first Test between World Champions Australia and Pakistan beginning on October 3. The P. Saravanamuttu Stadium - the home ground of the Tamil Union CC - is the venue for this first Test in the Pepsi Cup Pakistan-Australia Test Series 2002. The opportunity was given to Sri Lanka after both teams agreed to stage the three-Test series in Colombo and Sharjah because of security fears expressed by Australia about touring Pakistan. The Tamil Union Cricket Club has been closely woven into the history of Sri Lanka Cricket and is one of the few clubs, which counts a history of over 100 years. The P. Saravanamuttu Stadium was the venue of Sri Lanka’s inaugural Test match against England in February 1982. In 1986, Sri Lanka registered their first Test victory at the same venue defeating India.
