Three dead, 36 injured in clashes in East

Three people were killed and 36 others injured in clashes in the eastern port city of Trincomalee this morning.

According to Police sources, the LTTE had organised a Hartal (protest) in Trincomalee town. “Shops were shut and public transport came to a standstill. Tires were burning on roads blocking key entry points to eastern towns, including Trincomalee, leading to clashes between Sinhala and Tamil civilians in the area” a Police official said.

A Curfew imposed in Trincomalee will be in force till 6 A.M. Saturday, Police said.
