Public invited to comment on North East Emergency Reconstruction Project

The Provincial Council of the North-East has invited the public to submit their comments and observations on the Council’s draft - Environmental Assessment and Management Framework. 

The Council has requested financial assistance from the World Bank in the form of an ‘Emergency Reconstruction Project’ and the draft is expected to serve as a ‘template’ for ‘environmental assessments’ to be conducted on sub-projects under the Project. 

The Chief Secretary of the North East Provincial Council has requested that the comments and observations be submitted in writing on or before November 20, 2002. 

The Provincial Councils were the result of an agreement with India in 1987 aimed at resolving the conflict in North-East Sri Lanka.
