The 6th Convention of the Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) Alumni Societies is held in Colombo, from October 28 – 30, 2002 under the theme – “Peace and Stability through Friendship and Inter-Regional Cooperation”. AOTS, a non-profit organisation established in 1959 with the support of the Japanese Government, promotes technical cooperation for the industrialisation and development of developing countries and enhance mutual understanding and friendly relations between those countries and Japan. “I am most pleased to be able to organize the 6th Convention of the AOTS Alumni Societies in Colombo this year when Japan and Sri Lanka are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations,” Shuji Ogawa, the President of AOTS said in his message. The 6th Convention is hosted by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA), the Sri Lanka Alumni of the AOTS. “JASTECA in association with the AOTS has made a significant contribution in the area of human resource development and the transfer of Japanese technology to Sri Lanka,” President Chandrika Kumaratunga said, in a congratulatory message. The Convention held every three years gathers representatives of the 70 AOTS Alumni Societies spread in 44 countries, to exchange views on evaluations and tasks of the collaborative activities of AOTS and the AOTS Alumni Societies.
