Peace Talks: Parties agree to explore federal structure

The third session of peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was concluded in the Norwegian capital Oslo, on December 5 with both parties agreeing to explore a political solution founded on internal self-determination based on a federal structure within a united Sri Lanka.

The parties acknowledged that the solution has to be acceptable to all communities. The talks which focused on three major areas; consolidation of the ceasefire, humanitarian and rehabilitation action and political matters, were “frank, open and constructive”, a statement from the Royal Norwegian Government said.
