Child protection: Porn moviemakers nabbed
[January 08, 2003 - 10.15 GMT]

National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) and Police officials yesterday arrested eleven schoolboys and seven other youth while they were making a child pornographic movie at a hotel in Negombo.

“The main suspect is a bachelor who had recently returned to Sri Lanka after being employed abroad,” a NCPA press release said.

According to the NCPA, some of the children had arrived at the location in their school uniforms. The students were from Maligawatte and Bambalapitiya in Colombo and the seaside resort town of Negombo.

It has also been revealed that several schoolgirls were also due to come for the filming after school sessions were over. The minors will be subjected to a medical examination.

The National Child Protection Authority was set up by President Chandrika Kumaratunga in 1998 and is the focal government institution working towards the prevention of child abuse.
