A resident Sri Lanka Embassy was established in Hanoi,  capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam with effect from 16th January 2003. M. M. Jaffer has been appointed Sri Lanka’s first resident Ambassador in Vietnam.

Previously, the Sri Lanka Mission in Bangkok was          concurrently accredited to Hanoi.

“The establishment of a resident Mission in Vietnam, more than 30 years after the formalization of diplomatic relations in 1970, marks an important milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.
