Helgesen to meet President and Prime Minister today

Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen is scheduled to meet President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe this afternoon ahead of next week's sixth round of peace talks in Japan. He will arrive in Colombo this afternoon.

“The Deputy Foreign Minister is due to meet LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and chief negotiator Anton Balasingham in Kilinochchi tomorrow,” Norwegian Embassy spokesman, Tomas Stangeland said.

Vidar Helgesen took part in all five previous rounds of talks between the Government and the LTTE.

Stangeland also said that Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Peterson who was also due in Colombo today postponed his visit owing to the developing situation in Iraq.
