No change in plans for next round of talks - G. L.
[March 13, 2003 - 9.30 GMT]

Cabinet Spokesman Prof. G. L. Peiris today said that there wouldn’t be any change in forthcoming peace talks in Japan.

“We have no intimation from the LTTE that they have no desire to take part in the next round of peace talks in Japan,” Prof. Peiris said addressing the weekly cabinet press briefing.

“The Ceasefire Agreement makes it very clear in a situation like this, the armed forces have not merely the right, but a duty to act in defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka,” Prof. Peiris said adding that the Navy had not breached either the MoU or international law.

The talks between the Government and the LTTE are due to resume in Japan next Tuesday.
