Norwegian Ambassador bids farewell

Norwegian envoy in Colombo, Jon Westborg called at President’s House on Friday to bid farewell to the President.  

Ambassador Westborg assumed duties in 1996 and was the first resident Norwegian Envoy in Sri Lanka. President Kumaratunga invited Norway to play a facilitating role in the Government’s Peace negotiations with the Northern militants also in the late nineties. Ambassador Westborg played the role of catalyst in the Governments peace efforts, and was also closely associated with the Norwegian Agency Development Cooperation (NORAD), which has been operational in Sri Lanka for nearly 25 years.
