President in Bangladesh

President Kumaratunga arrived in Dhaka, Bangladesh today Saturday 19th April on a two day official visit aimed at further strengthening the close ties between the two countries.

President Kumaratunga was received at Zia International Airport by Professor Dr.Iajuddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, with full state honours including a twenty one gun salute and a ceremonial guard of honour. Several Cabinet Ministers and Ambassadors SAARC nations were also at hand to greet the President.

Thereafter the President visited the National Martyrs Memorial at Savar where she laid a wreath. Later in the day, President Kumaratunga will be hosted to a state banquet by the His Excellency Dr.Iajuddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh.

President Kumaratunga is scheduled to have bi lateral talks with Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia tomorrow, which are expected to centre on bi lateral and regional issues including SAARC.
