Maldivian President, Thai PM to visit Sri Lanka

Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is to pay a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka early next month.

Gayoom, the longest serving head of state in South Asia, will arrive on May 6 and hold talks with President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Gayoom, who came to power in1978, is credited with the gains the tiny atoll nation has made in health and education. He is also credited with turning the country into a tourism success in South Asia.

Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Sinnerwatra will be in the Island for an official visit on May 12 till May 16, 2003.
