President concerned about killing of informants

[May 7, 2003 - 7.00 GMT]

In a letter addressed the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, President Kumaratunga expressed her dissatisfaction about the government’s inactivity regarding killing of Tamil informants in security forces.

Letter further says that killing of the informants proves that the LTTE intelligence service has access to highly confidential security information. “This situation shows that national security is in grave danger.”

Last year President Kumaratunga appointed a Special Presidential Commission to probe into the raid of Ahturugiriya Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRP), also referred to as deep penetration hit squads which these informants were serving.

President Kumaratunga wrote to Prime Minister to give his fullest cooperation to this Commission.
