Maldivian President on three-day official visit

Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday began a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of the President.

Mr. Gayoom was hosted to a State banquet by President Chandrika Kumaratunga at President’s House, Colombo, last evening. A MOU on Tourism was signed between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe received President Gayoom at the island’s international airport.

The visiting President is due to hold talks with the Sri Lankan President and other leaders which are expected to focus on boosting bilateral trade and cooperation in tourism.
