[June 27, 2003 - 9.00 GMT]

Cabinet spokesman Prof. G. L. Peiris said the British Government has now categorised Sri Lanka in its ‘White List’, an indication that Sri Lanka no longer is guilty of human rights violations and conversely has a good a human rights record.

“This will have a good impact on investments and all other fields,” Prof. Peiris said addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

Prof. Peiris said that it was an honour for Sri Lanka to be in the White List and it will place Sri Lanka in the highest place in protecting and implementing human rights.
