Sri Lanka ranked 99th in UN Human Development Index

The UN Human Development Report 2003, which measures achievements in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment and per capita income, has ranked Sri Lanka 99th among 175 countries. 

The Report focuses on the ability of states in achieving the Millennium Development Goals by the year 2015. Millennium Goals, decided at UN Millennium Summit in September 2000 is a global campaign where 147 world leaders agreed to meet eight goals by 2015.

Eight Millennium Development Goals are combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women.
