EPRLF complains to Amnesty International

[July 17, 2003 - 10.30 GMT]

In a letter to Amnesty International (IA) the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) noted that the most ‘alarming development in the last 16 months is the systematic campaign of political assassinations initiated by the LTTE’.

The EPRLF acknowledges that since the signing of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) February last year, there has been no large-scale armed confrontation between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan security forces, but laments the “large number of serious incidents between the Sri Lankan navy and the ‘Sea Tigers’”.

“The LTTE has put into operation a well-planned campaign to physically eliminate elected officials, political organizers and even lapsed members of all Tamil political parties who have eschewed the terrorism of the LTTE and entered the democratic process”, the EPRLF states.

The EPRLF in its letter has requested all international human rights organizations such as the Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and others to “strongly and unequivocally condemn the present campaign of terror orchestrated by the LTTE” and demand that the LTTE respects the human and democratic rights of all the people in Sri Lanka.
