Government’s fresh proposals
on IA, within the law says G L Peiris

“The
Government proposals with regard to the provisional administrative structure
have been finalised and the document in the form in which it was promised
has been sent to the LTTE,”
Cabinet spokesman Prof. G L Peiris told the media today.
“A
lot of effort has gone into it,” he said, “and the Govt. believes that
this is what the LTTE had in mind when they said that they would like to
receive from the Government of Sri Lanka concrete proposals with regard to
the establishment of the Interim structure.” Norwegian special envoy, Jon
Westborg has left for Kilinochchi today with the proposals the Professor
confirmed.
Prof.
Peiris was confident that there now is “a very definite basis” on which
the two parties can get together and discuss a final solution with regard to
the establishment of an Interim Administration for the North and East.
He
refused to answer questions on the contents of the proposals and said it
would be inappropriate to divulge such details before the LTTE sees the
proposals gives its reaction and went on to add “I want to emphasise that
we are not expecting a response within the next day or two”.
“All I can say at
this moment is that, whatever suggestions the Government has made, is
entirely in its conformity to the laws of Sri Lanka,”
he said.
However
he emphasised that it is necessary for a Muslim delegation to participate in
these talks, “Muslim interests will have to be articulated and taken into
thought fully in making decisions with regard to the establishment of the
Interim structure.”
Prof.
Peiris said they are awaiting a response from the LTTE.
