‘Hi tech passports from August

The Department of Immigration and Emigration will soon begin issuing to all new applicants passport produced with high technology guarantees. A senior official of the department claimed this new travel document is hundred percent tamper proof.

The new ‘N’ series passports will have the holder’s photograph and printed details in an inside page and not on the outer cover page. The holder’s photograph will also be reproduced in a water mark type print. All pages will have special water marks visible only with the use of Ultra Violet rays.

The inclusion of these digital and personalised security features, of the ‘N’ series aims to prevent forgery. The current passports will be in use only till their validities expire.
